Boys & Girls Club of Flagstaff Concludes
All 2020 Summer Camps
After eight weeks and three camps, the Boys & Girls Club of Flagstaff concludes its Summer 2020 programming at both the Cogdill and Killip sites. For the first time, the Cogdill site also featured a Teen Camp.
The Cogdill and Killip youth camps featured programs such as Summer Brain Gain, STEM, Healthy Lifestyles, Ultimate Journey, and Gardening. Through these programs, campers were immersed in enriching activities each week. Some highlights from the Cogdill site include building rollercoasters out of popsicle sticks in STEM, smoothie making in Healthy Lifestyles, a trip to the Grand Canyon for Ultimate Journey, and a garden celebration. At Killip, campers participated in theme weeks. Each week all activities circled around the themes of animals, nature, superheroes, water, around the world, and survival skills.
Like the Killip extension’s camp, our Teen Camp was also in its first year. The teens participated in the Teen Snapshot, Creative Minds, Healthy Lifestyles, SMART Girls, and Passport to Manhood programs. Through these programs, campers learned photography, canvas painting, and made healthy meals.
All camps occurred with the safety of our members as the highest priority. In light of Covid-19, additional precautions were put into place for all sites. These precautions included daily temperature checks for members and staff, a strict member to staff ratio, the encouragement of mask wearing, and additional cleaning procedures at all sites to keep members and staff safe.
We hope our members enjoyed coming to camp each day and found the programming both fun and enriching. This year has presented its own set of challenges, but we have held to our mission of doing whatever it takes to put kids first, and we will continue to do so through this unpredictable time and beyond.
